Charlotte Aitchison, known to the public as Charli XCX, released her latest EP You’re the One on Tuesday. If you’re not already familiar with this British singer-songwriter’s unique electronic sound, it’s about time you listen! Check out the catchy tunes “Nuclear Seasons” and “Valentine.” She even has a free download of her Heartbreaks and Earthquakes mixtape available here. Since 2008, her goth pop music and funky style have caught the attention of fans from across the globe. At only 19 years old, she is both confident and carefree. She is always rocking her signature black eyeliner and doesn’t really care what people think about her. She is outspoken and funny, especially when she speaks about her love of the Spice Girls and her former dream of being a rapper.
Many different types of people have inspired Charli XCX, which make her so awesome. In an interview with Refinery29, she explains her “primo-punk” style: “I don’t have a specific icon I don’t think, style-wise. I like mixing different characters and people together I guess, like Wednesday Adams meets Baby Spice meets Winona Ryder in Beetlejuice meets Courtney Love. I reckon if they could all mesh into one then that new person would become my style icon. I love strong females.” She is the perfect example of a strong independent woman, one of the many reasons that make her our ShowStopper of the Week! According to Charli XCX, her life theme song would be “‘Spice Up Your Life’ by The Spice Girls.” Solid choice!
